Choosing the Right Probe Kit for Your ETher PockET Eddy Current Flaw Detector
The ETher PockET has earned its reputation as one of the most convenient eddy current flaw detectors on the market — pocket-sized, fast, and easy to learn. But the instrument itself is only half the story. What really determines how well the PockET performs in the field is the probe kit behind it. NDT Supply stocks a full lineup of application-specific probe kits for the PockET, so inspectors can outfit the unit for the exact job at hand instead of trying to force a general-purpose setup to work.
Why Probe Kits Matter
Eddy current inspection is probe-dependent by nature. Frequency range, probe geometry, and shielding all change based on whether you're chasing surface cracks, sub-surface flaws, weld toe cracking, or bolt hole fatigue damage. The PockET's Standard Kit (EC-ET-KIPET001) gets you the instrument, cables, power supply, and a hard carrying case — but it doesn't include application-specific probes. That's where the dedicated probe kits come in, each one bundled with the probes, test blocks, and accessories needed to get a specific inspection task running out of the box.
Weld Inspection Kits
Weld inspection is one of the PockET's core use cases, and NDT Supply carries three tiers of weld probe kits depending on scope:
KAPET001 pairs a medium (16mm) weld probe with a broadband unshielded probe, a ferrous weld test block with shims, and a deluxe probe case — a solid starting point for general weld scanning.
KAPET002 builds on that by adding a small (11mm) weld probe, giving inspectors more flexibility across a wider range of weld geometries and toe radii.
KAPET003 is the full-scope option, adding both small and medium weld probes, a WeldCheck demo crack specimen plate, a ferrous test block, and a rugged Peli hard carry case — ideal for teams that need a complete, field-ready weld inspection package with reference standards included.
Surface Inspection Kit
For general surface crack detection and sorting work, KASUR002 bundles five different probes — unshielded 500kHz, shielded 2MHz straight, shielded 500kHz double crank, shielded 200kHz crank, and a 2MHz knife probe — alongside ferrous and aluminum test blocks. That range of probe styles covers flat surfaces, radii, and fillets without needing to special-order individual probes.
Sub-Surface Inspection Kit
Corrosion mapping and sub-surface flaw detection call for lower-frequency probes with deeper penetration. KASUBS002 includes 16mm and 11mm surface/sub-surface probes running as low as 100Hz, a reflection-mode Lemo cable, and an aluminum test block with a graduated set of flat-bottom holes for calibrating detection sensitivity at 75%, 50%, 25%, and 12.5% depth.
Manual Bolt Hole Kit
Aerospace and structural inspectors working bolt holes will want KAMBH001, which includes two rigid bolt hole probes sized for 7.0–8.0mm and 12.5–14.0mm holes, along with rotating aluminum test blocks that include both defect-free and through-notch reference holes for verification.
Individual Probes and Accessories
If a kit doesn't quite match your application, or you're expanding an existing setup, individual weld probes (straight, inline, and transverse configurations in both small and medium diameters) are available separately, as are the cables, adapters, and protective cases used across the PockET line — including an adapter that lets PockET connect to ETher's 12-way probes for even broader compatibility.
