Sonatest Compression Transducers

Overview

There are four different offerings in single and dual "straight beam″ transducers - Contact, Twin Crystal, Delay Line and Immersion. Each transducer is made to exacting standards regarding acoustical, electronic and mechanical properties. Sonatest pressure transducers are tested thoroughly, typically at three stages of manufacture. The complete range of transducer types are available with a variety of connector styles, strain gauges, case configurations, frequencies and element sizes.

SHM & LHM

Single Compression Medium Damped

Small and large diameter compression probes with a hard ceramic face for longevity of use. These probes are great for inspection of forged and cast parts as well as thick composites.

SLF & PSLF

Single Compression Medium Damped with Membrane

Single crystal contact compression probe with membrane to help protect the face and achieve better contact on rough surfaces. PSLF comes with a composite PZT to give greater sensitivity and resolution.

SLM & PSLM

Single Compression Medium and High Damped

Single crystal contact probe with a lead metaniobate crystal, good sensitivity and resolution. Ceramic face for increased durability. PSLM is a single composite crystal probe with improved sensitivity and resolution as well as a wide bandwidth.

SMM & LMM

Small/Large Single Compression Replaceable Membrane

Similar to the SHM & LHM series except they have replaceable membrane which can contour to rough surfaces such as castings and forgings before machining.

RDT

Single Compression Delay Line Medium Damped

Single crystal delay line transducers designed for inspection/thickness checking of thin materials. Great near surface resolution and high sensitivity.

CD

Twin Compression Combined Double

Twin O degree compression probe which can be made with focused or high temperature shoes. Ideal for installation into AUT systems due to the tubular design.

D

Twin Compression Medium Damped

Twin crystal 0 degree compression button probe designed for thickness/corrosion checking on curved parts and pipes.

DEM & PDEM

Twin Compression Dual Element

Twin crystal contact compression probe with a medium bandwidth. Stainless steel housing to protect the acrylic face from overwear. The PDEM offers the same characteristics as the DEM but with improved resolution and sensitivity.

THM

Twin Compression Combined Double

Twin 0° degree compression probes with rectangular crystals used for common application such as lamination check, forging and casting inspection on parts under 35 mm.

FCG, FCR & PFC

Fingertip Contact Medium and High Damped

Single crystal 0 degree various frequency and diameter contact probes used for thickness measurements and lamination checks.

IMR, IMG & PIM

Immersion Transducers

IMR: Immersion probes with increased resolution for detection of small defects usually used in AUT tanks for bar and billet. IMG: Immersion probes with increased gain sensitivity for inspection of thick materials. PIM: Immersion probes with a composite crystal for a high bandwidth and improved output.

RB

Rubber Ball Delay Line Probes

Small diameter UT probes used for specific application such as spot weld inspection and composite radius delamination checks. These come in 2 options, one with a 12 mm contact area and a slim version for getting into 90 degree corners.

STARC

General Weld Probes, Single Crystal

Available in two different lines:

Compression Variant: Single crystal 0° compression wave probe with hard face (ceramic) for long life. Very good sensitivity and resolution. For use on smooth and machines surfaces.
Shear Wave Variant: Angle beam shear wave probe with high performance Ø10 mm single crystal in stainless steel housing, offering exceptional sensitivity and high resolution for exact and critical inspections.

TSTARC

General Weld Probes, Twin Crystal

Available in two different lines:

Compression Variant: Twin crystal 0° compression wave probe with hard face (ceramic) for long life. Very good sensitivity and resolution. For use on smooth and machines surfaces.
Shear Wave Variant: Angle beam twin crystal probe with 8 x 5 mm (x2) crystal size in stainless steel housing. This product has very good sensitivity and resolution especially on near face and short range detection.

Sonapen

Delay Line Contact Transducer

Sonapen transducers are replaceable delay line contact transducers, designed for precision thickness measurement of thin materials, and near surface flaw / delamination detection. The unique design of these transducers produces a focused sound beam in the material under test.
