Dakota NDT PMX4-DL High Penetration Gauge (HPXDL+)

Dakota NDT PMX4-DL High Penetration Gauge (HPXDL+)

Made in the USA

High Penetration A-Scan Thickness Gauge

The PMX4-DL was designed specifically for use on materials that are difficult for a standard ultrasonic instrument to penetrate. This is usually due to a coarse grain structure that attenuates the sound beam. The HPX has multiple high voltage pulser options, as well as filters tuned for lower frequency transducers (500 kHz – 10 MHz), the HPX compliments our product range by adding additional material types to our list of application possibilities.

Some materials that can be measured with the HPX include: Fiberglass, carbon fiber, coarse grained cast metals, rubber, high density polyethylene (HPDE), fiber reinforced plastic (FRP), lead and all steels and aluminums.

Applications Include: Fiberglass sheets, pipes, storage tanks, aerospace composites, boat hulls, conveyor belts, composite plastics, etc.

Measurement Modes

Pulse-Echo Mode (P-E)

Pulse-Echo (P-E) Mode measures from the surface to the back-wall echo. It is used on bare material to determine wall loss on corroded, eroded and pitted materials. When measuring through a coating the measurement will include an error due to the coating thickness x 2-3 because of the difference in sound velocity between the coating and test material.

Echo-Echo (E-E) Mode

Echo-Echo (E-E) Mode measures from the back-wall echo to its multiple-echo and eliminates the error due to the coating. Measurements can only be made on materials that have parallel surfaces as the multiple-echo will disappear if the back-wall is corroded or pitted.
