Separation Dynamics Extran Ultrafiltration System

Separation Dynamics Extran Ultrafiltration System

Inspect Parts with Less Wastewater & Less Maintenance

The Extran Ultrafiltration System (EUS) is a self-contained water filtration system designed specifically for the fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) process. The unique Extran ultrafiltration technology allows customers to effectively remove contamination so the clean water can be reused in the same inspection process or safely discharged into the sewer. Unlike most conventional systems, Extran's state-of-the-art membrane technology doesn't require membrane cleaning. The end result is a cleaner, more sustainable and efficient process that is low maintenance and uses only a small amount of consumables. The system can be used to remove a variety of contaminates such as oils, coolant, dyes and emulsifiers with fail-safe reliability, all while reducing wastewater volumes by 96% or more.

Features

  • Removes penetrant oils, dyes and emulsifiers
  • Efficiently reduces waste by 95% or more - avoid the high cost of generating so much wastewater and reduce ecological impact
  • Maintains bath cleanliness
  • Extends bath life for your washer
  • Reduces downtime
  • Water quality meets specifications for re-use or discharge
  • Prevents bacteria growth in the water
  • Designed for ease of operation
  • Requires no membrane cleaning
  • Low maintenance and uses only a small amount of consumables
  • Two-step filtration process with water polishing provides fail-safe reliability

System Description

Advanced Hollow Fiber Membrane

The Extran Module is made with a proprietary cotton-based hydrophilic membrane. The left schematic shows the hollow-fiber membrane filtering contaminated water and separating it into two streams; a purified water stream that may be reused back into the process, while the other contaminated stream becomes more concentrated for disposal. This unique membrane has a very broad range of chemical compatibility and does not foul like conventional ultrafilters, which means Extran does not require any membrane cleaning. Most conventional ultrafiltration systems require a lot of maintenance and frequent membrane cleaning, generating too much chemical waste and making them difficult to operate.

Process

  • Extran ultrafiltration removes most of the contaminants and is very efficient with all types of penetrants
  • State-of-the-art membrane technology does not require membrane cleaning and needs very little maintenance
  • The small amount of residual contamination and color are completely removed from the water by polishing with activated carbon
  • Removing most of the contaminants with Extran substantially extends the life of consumable polishing media
  • For closed-loop recycling, the clean water is circulated through an ultraviolet light to inhibit biological growth
  • Clean water is delivered back at the appropriate temperature and pressure to meet specifications

Polishing Skid

Water Polishing

The residual contamination and color can be further removed from the water by polishing with activated carbon, and optional polishing resin for recycling systems. Removing the large majority of the contaminants with the Extran membrane module substantially extends the life of the consumable polishing media. The polishing system includes wound fiberglass canisters containing polishing media. The tanks will be frame mounted and plumbed with isolation and sample valves. The number and size of the canisters will vary depending on the system and the needs of the customer.

SKIMZOIL Free Oil Removal System

Skim oil with less wastewater. SKIMZOIL combines and improves upon the best features found in conventional skimmers and coalescers.

  • The system is designed to skim and remove free-floating oils from washers, coolant tanks, and other sumps

  • Continuously skims the tank surface and circulates fluid through a separation tank

  • Free oil is trapped and automatically removed by a rotating skimmer drum

  • The drum design is very efficient at removing oil with very little water and cleaner

  • The clean water, without the floating oil, returns to the tank for reuse

  • The SKIMZOIL can also be incorporated into oil removal systems for pits and large tanks with free floating oil.
