Kowotest Kowovac V Leak Test System

Kowotest Kowovac V Leak Test System

Vacuum Leak Testing with Bubble Testing Method, According to EN 1593, ASTM E515

Overview

The Kowovac vacuum leak testing systems allow you to quickly and safely test welding seams in tanks, pipelines, and many other welding structures using the bubble testing method. In addition, castings can be inspected for cracks and porosity if going through complete wall thickness. So called “bubble testing” method can be performed according to EN 1593 and ASTM E515.

Leak testing with Kowovac systems can be performed before or instead of a hydraulic pressure test to avoid high expenses or if the wall thickness is too thin to give a reliable result with a pressure test. Kowovac systems and vacuum boxes work especially well for leak testing where structures are accessible only from one side (tank floors) or for open structures (storage tanks).

How to Use

Leaks can be determined with this method easily. Detection limits of this method under practical testing conditions are between 0.0001 and 0.001 mbar l / s.

  1. During testing, a foaming agent is sprayed onto the test area of a welding seam or a casting part. A foaming agent such as the G-FLEX leak finder is suitable – soap water should not be used.
  2. After applying the foaming agent, the test area is covered with a vacuum box fitted to the geometry of the structure. This vacuum box is connected with a vacuum hose to the vacuum pump or ejector with air compressor.
  3. After opening the valve - which is automatically done by pressing the box onto the test area - the volume under the vacuum box is evacuated within a few seconds. If there is a defect within the vacuum box, a foam hat quickly builds up because of the air streaming in through the defect.
  4. For reliable detection of all defects, the vacuum underneath the box must be sustained for at least 30 seconds.

Equipment Needed for Testing

  • Vacuum Generator - Either vacuum pump or ejector (ejector must be connected to air compressor)
  • Vacuum Hose - Connection between generator and vacuum box
  • Vacuum Box - Wide variety available to suit your application
  • Foaming Agent

Kowovac V Vacuum Pumps

The Kowovac V is a vacuum pump that includes a vacuum control valve, vacuum gauge, dust / water separator, splash proof switch and oil-resistant power cable - all built into a sturdy stainless steel frame. The oil-free (dry running) vacuum pumps are maintenance friendly due to the highly wear resisting special coal the impellers are made with.

Economic, very light weight version for normal application. Indoor use for one operator. Small dust/liquid separator. 3m long cable

Kowovac V 1.8 Unit

PN: 60-70550

Standard, light weight version for normal application. Outdoor use for one operator. Large dust/liquid separator. 3m long cable

Kowovac V 2.10 Unit

PN: 60-70560

Power version for fast inspection. Outdoor use for one operator. Large dust/liquid separator. 5m long cable

Kowovac V 2.16 Unit

PN: 60-70570

High power version for fast inspection. Outdoor use by two operators. Large dust/liquid separator. 5m long cable

Kowovac Ejector Unit

The Kowovac Ejector is carried by the inspector with a harness. At the right hip is connected a hose for compressed air and a vacuum hose to the vacuum box. At the back of the inspector is a large silencer that reduces the noise of the streaming compressed air. The ejector is maintenance free.

Vacuum Boxes

Kowotest vacuum boxes use highly limpid, flexible plastics for the break-proof inspection pane. For good sealing on nearly all surfaces the pane is edged with a highly flexible gasket of a special soft rubber mixture. For evacuating the box a 360° rotatable vacuum valve with connection for the Ø 13 mm (½inch) vacuum hose is used. By pressing down the box onto the test piece at the handles – one handle is the vacuum valve – the valve is opened and testing starts.
