Overview

The PosiTector UTG measures the wall thickness of materials such as steel, plastic and more using ultrasonic technology with precision ultrasonic transducers for fast, accurate readings. Ideal for measuring the effects of corrosion or erosion on tanks, pipes, or any structure where access is limited to one side. Multiple echo (UTG M) Thru-Paint models measure the metal thickness of a painted structure without having to remove the coating. Features a new larger 2.8" impact resistant color touchscreen with redesigned keypad for quick menu navigation, and has a weatherproof, dustproof, and water-resistant IP65-rated enclosure.

The PosiTector body is an interchangeable platform for maximum versatility; attach any PosiTector probe to a single gage body. Includes USB, WiFi, and Bluetooth connectivity to PosiSoft PC, Mac, and Smartphone software.

PosiTector Advanced Body Features

The PosiTector body is available in two versions, Standard and Advanced. The Advanced body has all of the features above, plus:

  • Storage of 250,000 readings in up to 1,000 batches and sub-batches
  • Live graphing of measurement data
  • Touchscreen keyboard
  • Prompted Batch Mode — create pre-defined batches with on-screen text and image prompts for each reading
  • A-Scan with adjustable Gain and screen capture. UTG M and UTG P probes include dual cursors to measure the distance between echoes
  • B-Scan — displays a cross sectional profile of the test material
  • Integrate with third-party software, drones, ROVs, PLCs, and robotic devices using several industry-standard communication protocols

PosiTector Probe Interchangeability

Maximum Versatility

PosiTector body accepts all PosiTector 6000, 200, RTR, SPG, DPM, IRT, SST, UTG, SHD, BHI, and GLS probes easily converting from a coating thickness gage to a surface profile gage, dew point meter, soluble salt tester, ultrasonic wall thickness gage, hardness tester, or gloss meter.

DeFelsko continuously improves and expands its PosiTector platform, and new probes sometimes require technologies that are not available on older gage bodies. The below chart is a quick reference to determine compatibility, based on the gage body serial number.

Probe Features & Styles

The PosiTector UTG consists of a body and a probe. There are three main categories of probes available:

  • Corrosion Probes: Measures the wall thickness of materials such as steel, plastic, and more. Ideal for measuring the effects of corrosion or erosion on tanks, pipes, or any structure where access is limited to one side. Probe options include cabled or integral probes, an xtreme probe with a braided stainless steel cable, and a low frequency probe.
  • Multiple Echo Probe: Features Thru-Paint capability to quickly and accurately measure the metal thickness of a painted structure without having to remove the coating. Also ideal for measuring blasted materials and other applications requiring a more durable wear face.
  • Precision Probe: Designed for high resolution measurements and thin materials including metals and plastics. Automatic Multi-Echo mode ensures the best accuracy on thin metals.
