Non-Contact (Air-Coupled) Transducers

Non-Contact (Air-Coupled) Transducers

Specialized Low Frequency Transducers For Use in Air and Other Non-Corrosive Gaseous Environments

Overview

Designed for use in air and other non-corrosive gaseous environments, these probes are characterized by extremely high efficiency in air. They are manufactured with aluminum housings. Non-Contact (Air-Coupled) Transducers are available in four formats: Round, Round-Focused, Square, and Square-Focused designs.

Features

  • Wide range of  low-frequency models available from 30 kHz to 5 MHz
  • Active surface areas from 7 to 100 mm for both spot inspection and broad coverage
  • Aluminum housing with standard BNC connector; custom connectors available on request
  • Models at frequencies of 500 kHz and lower include Ultran proprietary gas matrix piezoelectric (GMP™) composite
  • Models at 700 kHz and higher built with high performance polymer-based piezocomposite

Applications

  • Ideal for materials that cannot tolerate water, couplants, or other contaminants
  • Well-suited to porous and hygroscopic materials, food, and pharmaceuticals
  • Effective on composites, rubbers, plastics, ceramics, powder metals, lumber, honeycomb structures, and synthetic and natural materials
  • Applicable to both final products and in-situ inspection
  • Capable of defect detection and non-destructive material characterization
