The LCNDT ST-100 UV-C 275nm Disinfectant UV Lamp uses UV-C technology to disinfect surfaces and kill pathogens like viruses and bacteria, including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. UV-C is the traditional form of Germicidal UV light, which has been used by scientists for more than a century to reliably destroy and deactivate all kinds of pathogens like viruses, bacteria, mold and fungus. UV-C works by damaging molecules like nucleic acids and proteins, making the germ incapable of reproduction - the higher the dose applied to the area, the more effective the UV-C light is at doing that. Usage and Application:

Adjusting the Dose Amount of UV-C Light:

Use the following guidelines to appropriately adjust the amount of UV-C exposure for your applications

  1. Intensity - start with the intensity of the lamp - ST-100 is a 40W LED which is very bright as compared to many other UV-C lamps.
  2. Distance - the closer the lamp is to the object, the higher the dose of UV-C light. At 8", the dose is 1/4 of the dose at 4". This is called the inverse square law. The tradeoff is that at 4", you will have a smaller illuminated area.
  3. Time - double the time, double the dose

 Recommended Exposure Time and Distance:

  • Time - The longer the better. The laboratory that tested the lamp listed a 99.9% kill ratio in 10 seconds on the types of bacteria listed (see attached lab report).
  • Distance - The manufacturer of the ST-100 states that 30 seconds at 4" kills most bacteria and viruses.
