Overview

ASTM-E-1742 Penetrameters are available in three sets: Standard Set A of 25 sizes with choice of material, Standard Set B of 11 sizes with choice of material, and an Air Force Master Set (USAF Kit) which contains six material sets in a range of sizes. All sets include a wood case designed to prevent loss and damage by keeping IQI's firmly in place using a shock absorbing sponge rubber insert in the lid. IQI's are marked with lead figures to identify the thickness of the material to be radiographed on one end and the material of the IQI on the other end. Serialization and Calibration are available, as well as Encapsulation in clear, thin plastic.

Standard Sets

Set A

Set A consists of twenty-five IQI’s in a case and contains the following sizes:

  • .25", .31", .37", .43", .50", .56", .62", .68", .75", .81", .87", .93", 1.0", 1.1", 1.2", 1.3", 1.5", 1.6", 1.7", 1.8", 2.0", 2.1", 2.2", 2.3", 2.5"

Set B

Set B consists of eleven IQI’s in a case and contains the following sizes:

  • 2.7", 3.0", 3.2", 3.5", 3.7", 4.0", 4.5", 5.0", 6.0", 7.0", 8.0"

Air Force Master Set (USAF Kit)

The USAF Kit consists of six sets total: five sets of sixteen sizes in the materials shown below, and one set of Copper IQI's in eight sizes. Each set comes in its own case that fits into a larger 'master' case.

Thickness

2% of the thickness of the material to be radiographed, to the nearest fractional size. Minimum thickness: 0.005"

IQI Set A and Set B pricing is based on material. You must identify the Group Number for the Material based on the actual material you require. If only purchasing the USAF Kit, this is not required and you may skip to Step 2.
